May day

It’s definitely one of the special night for me in May.

Can you tell me how May means a lot to you? You might go to May day concert in May every year. You might celebrate the anniversary day every year. This is maybe your birthday month. Or it might be meaningful because you like The Bee Gees since First of May is always on your playlist.

To me, I love movies. French May is always the ultimate goal each year.

You can enjoy a lot of movies, drama, and musical show in French May. There is a theme every year and basically you will find a lot of fun during this period. It’s so cultural and May is a traditional after April which is served for Hong Kong international film festival.

Starting three years before, I will choose one French restaurant for my May Day since last year. I don’t have so much chances eating French dinner.

It’s so pleasant there is a unique lift for the restaurant which can straightly go to 2/F of La Saison by Jacques Barnachon.

You already feel so good when you arrived the restaurant and the whole customer experience is so good.
There is no doubt that this restaurant is full of romantic elements. Warm light, cozy sofa and neat table arrangement. I am sure it is one of the best place you date your dream girl for a dinner. I am sure no one will say no to your recommendation unless she hate French or she is one of the protest in the Lancôme incident recently.

We are foodies. We came here for food. There is no boundaries and you can enjoy your life. Let’s relax and squeeze some time reading some leisure stuff.

Choosing sparkling water is surely the best choice in a French restaurant. It’s the lifestyle of France.
Bread served after sparking water. I read lot of reviews before saying the bread is so delicious. It’s homemade by themselves. There are several choices of bread and you can enjoy as much as you want. After the bread, there is a plate served for butter and salt. They are home made too. The bread taste better especially with the salt. The butter is so creamy and don’t miss them.


Be frank, I don’t like the bread much. Although it’s soft, the taste can’t fully satisfy me as I have high standard on bread. However, the bread is so suitable for the things coming followed the bread.



Jacques onion soup with Comte cheese and onion confit is my friend’s choice. The soup is absolutely match with the bread. Good timing when it served after the bread. The onion soup taste not too strong.  With the Comte cheese, it’s more complicated and not only a simple regular onion soup you seen outside. 



Sea bream tartare and Cadoret oyster on apple and fennel bed with lemon cream is another choice from my friend and I much enjoyed this piece of appetizers much. Sea Bream Tartare(鯛魚他他)is very fresh and cold with the lemon cream sauce. Those apple and Fennel bed is being highlighted as they served as a strong supporting role on the tartare. The Oyster (卡杜域蠔) is very fresh and big enough and it is so delicious mixing up with the tararte together. It’s fresh and those lemon flavor embedded in the tartare do light up my interest for the dinner.





My choice is Duck foie gras terrine with dried figs and ginger confit served with Porto reduction. It’s not like my preference actually. However, duck foie taste specicall with some special favor. If you really like Duck Foie gras. There is no way to miss that. See how it match with the juice( 乾無花果,薑蓉及砵洒濃汁) and I bet most of the people will like it if they are fans of Duck Foie.





Coming up with main dishes which is the most important highlight. We tried three main dishes and all of them are good and unique.



Pan fried blue lobster and royals of foie gras with braised lettuce and lobster bisque(香煎藍龍蝦及鴨肝燩蛋配生菜及龍蝦湯) We would like to exchange our main course and one of my friends is a fans of blue lobster. So she insist to order that. The lobster smell so good and the taste is quite strong comparing different kinds of lobster. Their bisque mix with the lobster served a long after-taste. I guess it will be matched if you drink some champagne or Chardonnay. 




Another surprise is French black hen. I never try this kind of chicken. French black hen breast with creamy polenta, cocoa nibs, sucrine lettuce and chicken jus (法國黑母雞胸肉配王米)is another favorite food tonight. The chicken is soft and it will not taste good if you over-cooked it. The sauce is special since it is mix with chicken, lettuce and creamy polenta. 





My choice is Confit duck leg with polenta turmeric turnip orange jam and duck jus. 油浸鴨腿配玉米蓉,黃薑蘿蔔,香橙果醬及鴨肉汁This is definitely the signature here. If you visit this restaurant before. You definitely can’t miss it since it’s very famous and you will see a lot of positive review on that. The confit duck is so fresh and I do like the smooth texture in your mouth mixing with orange jam which increase your appetite. The portion of confit duck is large and you will definitely full after this main course. 


Talking about French, dessert is purely a important elements for enjoying a full set of French dinner. Line selection of cheese served with dried fruit bread.精選芝士拼盤配乾果麵包. My friend is fond of cheese and he is happy that he can enjoy a lot of different kind of cheese. I tried some but I don’t like it much especially the goat cheese. But I guess most of the people can’t enjoy it much like me.



Both of the dessert is excellent. Moelleux chocolate with pistachio ice cream and red fruit coulis 朱古力心太軟配開心果雪糕紅苺醬 and Lemon butter cream mousse with Italian meringue 檸檬牛油忌廉幕絲配意大利蛋白霜are well done and nothing you can complaint. Girls like them all. If you plan to have a date with a girl who like dessert. It’s definitely a good choice. 



My friend bet that we will be hungry if eating a lar carte here. The thing is, all of us are totally full and we can’t finish all the food especially the desserts. After the dinner, drinking a coffee with nice evening and cozy environment. I will definitely remember this night in May.
